1999-2002: Fidelity Investments
Fidelity Investments
(contracting through Renaissance Worldwide)
Contract Software Developer
Designed, developed, deployed and supported Intranet-based business applications for the Fidelity eBusiness (FeB) Operations group. Primary projects were:
  • Incident Manager: Web-based real-time crisis management and reporting tool. Incident Manager allowed Fidelity Internet Operations Center (IOC) personnel to track any problems with Fidelity customer-facing websites (such as www.fidelity.com), including impact levels, outage times and responsible parties, and to log all actions taken while working a particular incident. Incident Manager provided integrated access to existing paging and change-management systems. Fully redundant Web and database servers (with automatic data replication) provided 24x7x365 operation. Incident Manager also provided reporting, trending and billing information (such as total outage time per product, customer impact time per incident, etc.) for IOC management and engineering personnel. (VB, ASP/IIS, ADO/ODBC, DHTML, JavaScript, Java/JDBC, Oracle/PL-SQL)
  • IOC Spartan: Intranet-based repository for technical and business information about Fidelity products under IOC monitoring. Pages and menus were generated from Incident Manager and IOC Spartan database tables, allowing maintenance by personnel with no training in HTML or web-server administration. IOC Spartan also provided real-time links to statistics generated by Incident Manager and other IOC tools, allowing Fidelity client organizations to track their product's performance. (VB, ASP/IIS, ADO/ODBC, XML/XSL, DHTML, JavaScript, Java/JDBC, Index Server, Oracle/PL-SQL)
For these projects, my responsibilities included:
  • Prototyping and design of Web-based user interfaces
  • Object-oriented analysis and design of server-based COM components

Designed and developed client/server, Internet and Intranet business applications for clients in multiple industries including financial services, energy trading, telecommunications, retailing, and health care. Facilitated requirement-gathering and design workshops with external and internal clients.
Major business design projects include:
  • TEAM: integrated account management system for LDDS (later WorldCom). LDDS had grown through acquisitions, and at the time had literally dozens of separate IS systems for account setup, voice and data line provisioning, trouble resolution, billing, etc. TEAM was designed to provide a single, unified interface for all account management functions.
  • OMEGA: comprehensive sales compensation system for Digital Equipment Corporation. OMEGA was an existing Sapient sales compensation solution, heavily customized for Digital's needs. OMEGA supported hardware, software and services sales, allowing commissionable revenue and the resulting commissions to be calculated and tracked for individual sales representatives as they transferred between specific sales "roles" at Digital. OMEGA also provided for dynamically assigning and modifying sales goals and commission schedules, automatically recalculating payments as necessary.
